The Mountain View Mavericks will head out to face off against the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
While Mountain View's victory against Skyview wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Mountain View narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Skyview 9-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Katy Jackson made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, Kiki Bangham was a standout: she scored two runs while going 3-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emersen Lukoic, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Rocky Mountain, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Filer on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Grizzlies considering their one-run performance the match before.
Like Mountain View, Rocky Mountain also got a great game from a two-way player: Danica Quinn. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Quinn was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Sorensen, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Addyson Rundell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Rocky Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Filer only posted an OBP of .167.
Rocky Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. The win got Mountain View back to even at 2-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Mountain View hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Rocky Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Mountain View's way against Rocky Mountain in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Mountain View made off with an 18-8 victory. Does Mountain View have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rocky Mountain turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
