If the Staunton Bulldogs were feeling good off their 55-32 takedown of the Pinckneyville Panthers last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Staunton opened the new year with a less-than-successful 50-44 loss to they on Thursday. It was the first time this season that they let down their fans at home.
Leading Greenville to victory were Katie Campbell and Emma Veith. Campbell dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds, while Veith scored 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for her. Shayna Henderson was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Staunton's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 15-2. As for Greenville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Staunton will face off against Carrollton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carrollton has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Greenville will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Okawville at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th.
