The American Leadership Academy Eagles will take on the Morgan Trojans at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. American Leadership Academy has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight losses, while Morgan will come in with five straight victories.
Last Friday, American Leadership Academy came up short against Summit Academy and fell 6-2.
American Leadership Academy saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justus Brost, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Memphis Butler also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Morgan posted their closest win since May 8, 2024 on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Judge Memorial Catholic, sneaking past 9-8.
Camron Talbot was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Owen Gilson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Lincoln Gilson was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Morgan hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Judge Memorial Catholic struck out seven times.
Morgan pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for American Leadership Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. American Leadership Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Morgan struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
American Leadership Academy couldn't quite get it done against Morgan when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
