The Valley Vikings struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Sterling Tigers had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. The match between both teams wasn't particularly close, with Valley falling 42-26. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for them in their matchups with Sterling: they've now lost three in a row.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Peyton Savolt, who scored 17 points. Savolt scored a full 65.4% of Valley's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Jimenez, who scored three points along with 16 rebounds and three steals.
Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Tatym Dempcy, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds for Sterling. Dempcy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Ashlynn Storch was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Valley has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season. As for Sterling, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Valley won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Frontier Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Emily Gesick and Savolt. As for Sterling, they will head out on the road to face off against Eaton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
