Softball Recap: Upper Scioto Valley Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Arcadia, Upper Scioto Valley was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They never let the New Knoxville Rangers get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Rams considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Raegan Castle was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2025. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Hunsicker, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ruby Risner, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Upper Scioto Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Upper Scioto Valley's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for New Knoxville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Upper Scioto Valley will challenge Ada at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Rams' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for New Knoxville, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Wapakoneta at 5:00 p.m. on the 16th.
