Manchester is 9-1 against West Union since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Greyhounds will be playing at home against the Dragons at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Manchester has three straight victories, West Union has 19 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Manchester had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Green on Friday. The Greyhounds' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bobcats an 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won seven matches by 11 runs or more so far this season.
Rylie Young made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Young was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Manchester got a big performance out of Addilyn Hunter, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Bristynn McClanahan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for West Union's offense. They lost 12-0 to Clay on Saturday. The game marked the first time this season in which the Dragons were not able to get on the board.
Manchester's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for West Union, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
West Union's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Manchester has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .516. It's a different story for West Union, though, as they've only averaged .333. Will they be able to contain Manchester's hitters?
Manchester took their win against West Union in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-2 score. Will the Greyhounds repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
