The Marie Philip Galloping Ghosts scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They walked away with a 55-45 victory over Woodward. The victory was nothing new for Marie Philip as they're now sitting on five straight.
Marie Philip's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Valerie Salgado led the charge by scoring 18 points along with five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Salgado has scored at least 25% of Marie Philip's points. Another player making a difference was Solina Rampino, who scored six points along with 13 rebounds and three steals.
Marie Philip pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for Woodward, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-1.
Marie Philip will stay at home for another game and welcome Maryland School for the Deaf at 11:30 a.m. on December 16th. Maryland School for the Deaf will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 121st in Maryland, while Marie Philip is ranked ninth in Massachusetts). Woodward will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Academy at Penguin Hall at 4:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
