The Lugoff-Elgin Demons were the 69-60 winner over the Westwood Redhawks when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The contest between the two teams wasn't particularly close, with Lugoff-Elgin falling 67-51. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Westwood is ranked second).
Lugoff-Elgin lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Savon Jenkins, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylen Mumford, who scored nine points along with two steals.
Westwood was led to victory by TJ Bell and Larry Brown. Bell scored 15 points, while Brown scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mike Balkman, who scored nine points.
Lugoff-Elgin has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Westwood, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 13-1.
Lugoff-Elgin's road trip will continue as they head out to face A.C. Flora at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. A.C. Flora has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 515 points over their last eight matchups. As for Westwood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Irmo at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
