The Permian Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Midland Legacy Rebels at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Permian will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
If Midland Legacy heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Permian took over last week. The Panthers came out on top against San Angelo Central by a score of 35-27 on Friday. Given the Panthers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Bobcats are ranked 237th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jakob Garcia was his usual excellent self, throwing for 320 yards and four TDs while completing 75% of his passes. Those four passing touchdowns gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Midland Legacy had just enough and edged out Frenship 45-42 on Friday.
Midland Legacy's win came from a few key players Permian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was JP Reyes, who threw for 313 yards and four touchdowns, and also punched in one rushing score. Midland Legacy is undefeated when Reyes posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 0-4 otherwise. Caden Ellis was in the mix too, providing the Rebels with two scores.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Midland Legacy, racking up 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ellis, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
One reason for the win was Midland Legacy's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for eight sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Weldon Cooks and Gabriel Henry, who racked up five sacks between them.
Permian's win bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Midland Legacy, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Permian came up short against Midland Legacy when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 49-38. Thankfully for the Panthers, Aiden Serrano (who rushed for 94 yards and a pair of TDs on only ten carries, and also picked up 67 receiving yards and one touchdown) won't be suiting up this time.
