Softball Recap: William Blount Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

After only two runs in their last match, William Blount made sure to put some runs up on the board against Hardin Valley Academy on Tuesday. The Governors blew past the Hawks 11-4. The victory continues a trend for the Governors in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won five in a row.

Katee Owens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maddie Morton and Chloe Merriman did most of the damage at the plate: Morton went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles, while Merriman went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Morton a new career-high. Trinity Johnson also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

William Blount was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hardin Valley Academy only posted a batting average of .192.

William Blount pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hardin Valley Academy, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

William Blount wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 9-7 win against Maryville on the 27th. As for Hardin Valley Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-0 defeat against Heritage on the 26th.
