After a string of three wins, the Scurry-Rosser Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a serious blow against Rice, falling 55-25. Having soared to a lofty 56 points in the game before, Scurry-Rosser couldn't push the score so high this time.
It was another big night for Saniya Burks, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and ten rebounds for Rice. That makes it 17 consecutive games in which Burks has scored at least a third of Rice's points. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Nezar, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Scurry-Rosser's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Rice, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with that win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scurry-Rosser will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Malakoff at 5:00 p.m. on January 17th. Malakoff has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 178 points over their last three games. As for Rice, they will head out on the road to face off against Mildred at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Mildred will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 751st, while Rice is ranked 235th).
