Copper Hills's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Herriman Mustangs as they made off with an 11-4 win. Considering the Grizzlies have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bryton Dawes made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Dawes was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Janie Coats was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Layla Ford also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.
Copper Hills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .471. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Herriman only posted a batting average of .219.
Copper Hills' victory bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Herriman, their loss dropped their record down to 16-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Copper Hills will welcome Farmington at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Herriman, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Taylorsville at 3:30 p.m. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
