Basketball Recap: Milwaukee Lutheran Comes Up Short

While it was all tied up 31-31 at halftime, Milwaukee Lutheran was not quite Lake Country Lutheran's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They took a 69-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lake Country Lutheran Lightning. While losing is never fun, the Red Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Lightning are ranked 90th).

Despite the loss, Milwaukee Lutheran still got an impressive performance from Xavier Allen, who posted 17 points and six assists. The matchup was Allen's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Stevon Luster, who earned eight points.

Lake Country Lutheran's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jack Poellot led the charge by putting up 13 points along with seven boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Cleary, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Milwaukee Lutheran and nudges their season record down to 4-7. As for Lake Country Lutheran, their victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2.

Milwaukee Lutheran will venture away from home to challenge Shorewood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Milwaukee Lutheran's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine games. As for Lake Country Lutheran, they will take on University School of Milwaukee at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
