Baseball Recap: St. Peter's Has No Trouble Against Monsignor Scanlan

St. Peter's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Monsignor Scanlan Crusaders as they made off with a 13-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Louis Demontreux tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since April 1st.

On the hitting side, Marco Aruta and Anthony Macaluso did most of the damage at the plate: Aruta got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Macaluso went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Macaluso a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Rosario, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

St. Peter's always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monsignor Scanlan only posted an OBP of .176.

St. Peter's has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Monsignor Scanlan, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Peter's will host Archbishop Stepinac at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. As for Monsignor Scanlan, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Xavier at 11:00 a.m. The Knights will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
