The Ledyard Colonels will venture away from home to face off against the St. Bernard Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Ledyard barely beat Plainfield the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Colonels never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Monday. The Colonels haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Ledyard let Abby Suarez and Julia Bonser run wild. Suarez went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Bonser went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That double was Suarez's first of the season. Faith Dalton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Ledyard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
St. Bernard came out on top against Wheeler on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Saints didn't even let the Lions on the board, marking the Saints' second-straight 7-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Saints.
Not much got past Anabelle Wenzel, who gave up just two hits to keep Wheeler off the board. Wenzel has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Olivia Kane, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Helena Coury, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Ledyard's record is now 7-2. As for St. Bernard, their record now sits at 5-3.
St. Bernard's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Ledyard has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for St. Bernard, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Ledyard keep running through batters, or will the Saints buck the trend?
Ledyard came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Bernard in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. Will the Colonels repeat their success, or do the Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
