The Central Blue Devils will be home for the holidays to greet Academy Charter at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Even though Central has not done well against Seton Hall Prep recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Central narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Seton Hall Prep 61-59.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malik Bass, who scored 13 points along with eight assists. Michael Anderson was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Academy Charter can finally bid farewell to their ten-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game last Wednesday. They walked away with a 61-52 win over Freeport. With that win, Academy Charter brought their scoring average up to 53.5 points per game.
Academy Charter's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joel Beard, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Emmanuel Derosier, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds.
Central pushed their record up to 1-0 with that win, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season. As for Academy Charter, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-1.
