Serenitee Martel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances. In other batting news, Faith Brown was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Haley Maxham, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Hartford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Otter Valley came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with ten straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Highlanders get on the board and left with a 24-0 victory. That 24 run margin sets a new team best for the Otters this season.
Like Hartford, Otter Valley also got a great game from a two-way player: Sophie Parker. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Parker was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Otter Valley got a massive performance out of Hannah Desabrais, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave Desabrais a new career-high. Kaylee Maloy was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Otter Valley pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Hartford, their record is now 11-5.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hartford has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .509. However, it's not like Otter Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .479. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hartford couldn't quite get it done against Otter Valley in their previous matchup on Friday as they fell 8-3. Can the Hurricanes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
