On Saturday, the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders faced the Riviera Prep Bulldogs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. St. Thomas Aquinas fell 69-58 to Riviera Prep. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Wednesday (57), St. Thomas Aquinas still had to take the loss.
St. Thomas Aquinas' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Drake (DJ) Sandi, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds, and Matt Andreopoulos who scored 15 points along with three steals. Sandi has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden (AJ) Ambrose, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
St. Thomas Aquinas' loss dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Riviera Prep, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 14-4.
St. Thomas Aquinas on the road again on Monday and play against North Broward Prep at 5:00 p.m. on January 15th. As for Riviera Prep, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Sagemont at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Sagemont is ranked 12th, while Riviera Prep is ranked sixth).
