The New Prairie Cougars will square off against the Boone Grove Wolves at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. New Prairie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
New Prairie is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Hanover Central just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Saturday. They came up short against the Wildcats, falling 15-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Cougars have suffered since April 11th.

Reed Robinson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. New Prairie is 8-1 when Robinson posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise.
Boone Grove came out on top against Portage on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Wolves took their contest against the Indians 7-3. The Wolves haven't had any issues with the Indians recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Seth Pitcock was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tristan Wilson, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Johnny Bobos was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Boone Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
New Prairie's defeat dropped their record down to 12-6. As for Boone Grove, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. New Prairie has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Boone Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went New Prairie's way against Boone Grove in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as New Prairie made off with a 10-1 win. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
