This season hasn't been kind to the Starpoint Spartans, who are still winless after their fourth match. They fell 61-49 to Seton Catholic Central on Friday. While losing is never fun, Starpoint can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 732nd, while Seton Catholic Central is ranked 83rd).
Seton Catholic Central was led to victory by Drew Erickson and Brian Dempsey. Erickson scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Dempsey scored 21 points along with three steals. That's the first time this season that Dempsey scored 15 or more points. Johnny Hopf was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Starpoint's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Seton Catholic Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
Starpoint will be playing in front of their home fans against West Seneca West at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. West Seneca West is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. Seton Catholic Central and Union-Endicott will face off at 7:15 p.m. on January 3, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Union-Endicott is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
