St. Xavier is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Ohio's top teams: Lakota East, who was ranked eighth at the time (St. Xavier was ranked fifth). The Bombers were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Thunderhawks on Thursday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Xavier to victory, but perhaps none more so than Will Payton, who had four digs and four aces. They weren't the only good servers: St. Xavier was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in May of 2025.
