Football Recap: Ridge Cator's Menacing Defense Leads Bethel over Luther

Bethel hadn't done well against Luther recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Wildcats strolled past the Lions with points to spare, taking the game 50-34. For the Wildcats, this counts as revenge for the 25-6 victory the Lions walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Maddox Davis had an outrageously good game as he threw for 310 yards and five TDs while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 80 yards. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in October of 2024. Zack Jennings did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 93 receiving yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bethel was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 249 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Luther only rushed for 87 rushing yards.

Bethel didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Ridge Cator, Leighton Swegheimer, Davis, and Luke Quinter picked up one apiece. Quinter got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Luther's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Xadrian Bellows, who threw for 202 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes, and Isaiah Zapata, who picked up 87 receiving yards and one score. Grayson Goyer made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Bethel has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 49.0 points this season. As for Luther, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Bethel has already played their next game, a 58-32 victory against McLoud on the 12th. As for Luther, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 34-14 win against Perry on the 12th.
