The Cicero-North Syracuse Northstars will venture away from home to square off against the Westhill Warriors at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Cicero-North Syracuse is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Cicero-North Syracuse is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Fulton by a score of 12-7 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Northstars.
Jeremy Palmer made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Palmer was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Kaden Kalfass looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Jaden Zimmer was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Corey Kolbas also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Three must be Westhill's lucky number: they beat New Hartford with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Warriors beat the Spartans by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-1. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Anthony Sampo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Westhill let Tommy Hunt and Eric Holstein run wild. Hunt went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Holstein earned one run and three stolen bases. Holstein is becoming a predictor of Westhill's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't).
Westhill pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Cicero-North Syracuse, their record now sits at 5-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cicero-North Syracuse has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Westhill struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Cicero-North Syracuse took their victory against Westhill in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Northstars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
