The Point Pleasant Big Blacks will face off against the Buffalo Bison at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Point Pleasant is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
Point Pleasant came up short against Scott on Saturday, falling 56-36. While losing is never fun, the Big Blacks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 551st, while the Skyhawks are ranked 57th).
Despite the defeat, Point Pleasant had strong showings from Asher Robinson, who posted six points, and Carrsen Lambert, who earned ten points and three steals.
Even though they lost, Point Pleasant was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Buffalo came up short against St. Joseph Central on Saturday and fell 62-49. The loss continues a trend for the Bison in their matchups with the Irish: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the defeat, Buffalo saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Asher Flanery went 10-for-16 to rack up 26 points in addition to five assists and four steals. With that strong performance, Flanery is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Cales, who scored 11 points.
Buffalo's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Point Pleasant, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-14.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Point Pleasant has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.6 boards per game. However, it's not like Buffalo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
