During a 2-0 start to the 2019-20 season, Quinn Johnson is firing away from beyond the arc to the delight of Loomis head boys basketball coach Drew Billeter and Wolf Nation. Johnson, Nebraska's top returning sharp shooter, has knocked down 13 of 18 3-pointers to date after pouring in 42-percent of his shots from long range a year ago.
During a freshman year in which he knocked down 90-of-215 3-point attempts, Johnson was good on 22-of-71 field goals tries a year ago. This fall, the 5-foot-10 sophomore has shown improved marksmanship regardless of where he is at on the floor after knocking down 3-of-6 2-point field goals and 7-of-8 free throws through two contests. Johnson is ripping the cords for 26 points a contest in 2019-20.
Centennial's Cooper Gierhan returns after making 42-percent of his 3-point tries last season, tying Johnson with the highest returning 3-point shooting percentage from a year ago. Johnson, however, earned top billing as the Cornhusker State's most accurate returning sharp shooter after he fired up a larger number of 3-point attempts last winter.
Blue Hill's MJ Coffey sits in the No.3 slot after stretching opposing defenses with a 40.5 3-point percentage a year ago while Bret Hanis of Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family and Lincoln Pius X's Kolbe Rada round out this week's Top 5 in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots respectively. All six classes are represented in this week's Top 10.
In order to be considered for this week's Top 10, a returning player had to make at least 50 3-pointers a year ago. As you browse through the Top 10, listed on the line below each player's name are that player's 3-point field goal, total field goal and free throw shooting numbers as well as the total number of points he scored a year ago.
