The Paul VI Panthers and the St. Mary's Ryken Knights squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Paul VI Panthers had to settle for second. Paul VI took a 26-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Mary's Ryken. Paul VI lost against St. Mary's Ryken in their previous head to head back in October, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 33-14 score last time.
Paul VI's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Tanner Wiles, who picked up 107 receiving yards and a touchdown. Brett Edmonds was another key contributor, throwing for 158 yards and two touchdowns.
Paul VI's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for St. Mary's Ryken, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-5.
Paul VI does not have any more games scheduled as of now. St. Mary's Ryken will square off against Archbishop Carroll at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Archbishop Carroll presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than St. Mary's Ryken in their respective states (Archbishop Carroll is ranked sixth in District of Columbia, while St. Mary's Ryken is ranked 41st in Maryland).
