Baseball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for South Warren

South Warren barely beat Warren East the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Raiders on Friday. Considering the Spartans have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Austin Allen looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Ty Croghan and Griffin Rardin did most of the damage at the plate: Croghan got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Rardin went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Croghan also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brandon Perkins Jr., who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

South Warren always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Warren East only posted an OBP of .160.

The win was the sixth in a row for South Warren, bringing their record up to 14-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Warren East, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Warren will take on Bowling Green at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Purples have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Warren East, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Glasgow at 5:30 p.m.
