Central of Clay County is on a four-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Valley is on a seven-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Central of Clay County Volunteers will host the Valley Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Central of Clay County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Central of Clay County was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Randolph County on Wednesday. Everything went Central of Clay County's way against Randolph County as Central of Clay County made off with a 12-2 win. The Volunteers haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Kalvin Simmons made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Simmons was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other pitching news, Kaiden Glenn looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Central of Clay County got a massive performance out of Taylor Boyd, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Boyd also put up a double, which washis first of the season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Boyd, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Central of Clay County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Valley got themselves on the board against Callaway on Tuesday, but Callaway never followed suit. They had just enough and edged the Cavaliers out 1-0.
The result came thanks to Seth Hammock's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks.
Valley's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Central of Clay County, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Central of Clay County's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. Central of Clay County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Valley, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Central of Clay County continue to outrun the ball?
