After two games on the road, Tampa Bay Tech is heading back home. They will take on the Sickles Gryphons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Tampa Bay Tech will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 331st, while Sickles is ranked 72nd).
Tampa Bay Tech posted their closest victory yet this season on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 48-45 victory over Middleton.
Tampa Bay Tech's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Azjannie Culberth, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. Culberth is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Breanna Hartley, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Sickles' good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a hard 68-54 fall against Cardinal Mooney. Sickles found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 21 to 5 on offense.
Despite the loss, Sickles got a solid performance out of Beckham Hockley, who scored 24 points. Hockley is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last 11 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Sharpe, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
The victory got Tampa Bay Tech back to even at 7-7. As for Sickles, their loss dropped their record down to 13-3.
Everything came up roses for Tampa Bay Tech against Sickles in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 58-11 victory. Will Tampa Bay Tech repeat their success, or does Sickles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
