The Early Longhorns will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Canadian Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Early had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 54-13 victory over Compass Academy.
Early's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rohyn Price, who threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Griffin Cheslock also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Canadian put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Littlefield, posting a 65-7 win at home. Given Canadian's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Littlefield is ranked 649th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Camren Cavalier was a one-man wrecking crew for Canadian as he threw for 320 yards and six touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punched in three touchdowns on the ground. Cavalier hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for three straight games. Max Dumbauld did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 119 receiving yards.
Early now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Canadian, they pushed their record up to 11-0 with that victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.
Early was dealt a bruising 42-14 loss at the hands of Canadian in their previous matchup back in November of 2022. Can Early avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
