The Nantahala Hawks struggled with assists on Friday (the Hayesville Yellowjackets had 1000% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Nantahala was outmatched by Hayesville at home and fell 75-19. Nantahala was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 54-13.
Despite the loss, Nantahala had strong showings from Delaney McLean, who scored 12 points, and Zoey Passmore, who scored 5 points. McLean is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now stole two or more in the last three games she's played.
Hayesville was led to victory by Mallory Peck and Ava Shook. Peck scored 12 points along with 6 rebounds, while Shook scored 9 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Shook is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Briley Clampitt, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Nantahala and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Hayesville, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nantahala will take on Robbinsville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hayesville, they will head out on the road to face off against Summit Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
