The Covenant hasn't had much luck against Miller School of Albemarle recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Mavericks at 5:00 p.m.
Last Tuesday, The Covenant didn't have quite enough to beat Virginia Episcopal School and fell 5-4.
McKinley Pattie was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jonathan Albert made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Phillip Venton, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Miller School of Albemarle waltzed into their match on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They never let the Flames get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mavericks, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Miller School of Albemarle also got a great performance from Nathan Duncan as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over 5.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, Connor Lockhart was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Ty Pallante was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Miller School of Albemarle always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern Mennonite only posted an OBP of .143.
Miller School of Albemarle's win was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for The Covenant, their loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.
The Covenant came up short against Miller School of Albemarle in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 5-1. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
