After a string of four wins, Maple Mountain's good fortune finally ran out. They fell 44-36 to Payson. Maple Mountain has struggled against Payson recently, as their matchup on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Maple Mountain got a solid performance out of Jaynee Tanner, who scored 7 points along with 11 rebounds and 4 steals. Tanner has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Kylee Gause was another key contributor, scoring 5 points along with 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Timpanogos was beaten by Syracuse 63-28 on Friday. Timpanogos was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-13.
Maple Mountain's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Timpanogos, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-1.
Everything came up roses for Maple Mountain against Timpanogos when the teams last played back in February of 2019 as the team secured a 69-24 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Maple Mountain since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
