Basketball Recap: Dupo Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Addison Mitchell and Kaitlynn Townsend

After flying high against First Baptist Academy last Thursday, Dupo came back down to earth. The Dupo Tigers took a 46-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sparta Bulldogs on Monday. The Tigers have struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.

Kaitlynn Townsend and Addison Mitchell certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Townsend went 5 of 12 en route to 14 points, while Mitchell posted seven points and five rebounds. Those 14 points gave Townsend a new career-high.

Sparta got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ruthie Pillers out in front who went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Schulein, who put up 13 points.

Dupo's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Sparta, their record is now 4-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dupo and Steeleville will face off at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. Sparta and Okawville will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
