The Pueblo West Cyclones are taking a road trip to face off against the Rampart Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Pueblo West took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Doherty. That looming 12-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cyclones yet this season.

Jaiven Baca made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has become a key player for Pueblo West: the team is undefeated when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 6-7 otherwise. Baca was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Blake Mares and JoJo Mendoza did most of the damage at the plate: Mares got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Mendoza went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Pueblo West is 4-1 when Mares posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Logan King also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Pueblo West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rampart). They put the hurt on Liberty with a sharp 17-6 victory last Saturday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Rams as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Liam Martin and Justus Derickson made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Martin struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Derickson pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Martin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Martin went 4-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles, while Derickson went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Will Jackson, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Vince Carpio, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Pueblo West pushed their record up to 9-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Rampart, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-8.
