In other batting news, Cheyenne got a massive performance out of Esai Esparza, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Cheyenne always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .725. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Awaken Christian only posted an OBP of .368.
The victory made it two in a row for Cheyenne and bumps their season record up to 14-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 21.0 runs over those games. As for Awaken Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cheyenne will challenge Doral Academy Red Rock at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Desert Shields are facing the Dragons at the right time seeing as the Dragons are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
