The University Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 60-35 walloping at the hands of Timber Creek. While losing is never fun, University can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 366th, while Timber Creek is ranked 41st).
Despite the loss, University still got an impressive performance from Jasmine Fajardo, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacqueline Leap, who scored seven points.
Timber Creek's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Serene Exalant, who scored 11 points along with five steals. Exalant hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Karishma Ortiz, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
University has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Timber Creek, they pushed their record up to 13-8 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home.
University will take on Lake Howell at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Timber Creek, they will head out on the road to square off against Cocoa at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cocoa is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
