Last Tuesday, Discovery Canyon made easy work of Mesa Ridge and carried off a 3-0 win.
While Discovery Canyon won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The final score came out to 25-15, 25-17, 25-23.
Joseph Dang and Kaleb Valenzuela were among the main playmakers for Discovery Canyon as the former had 18 digs and one assist and the latter had 18 assists and three digs. That's the most assists Valenzuela has posted since back in February.
Discovery Canyon couldn't miss and finished the game having scored on 42.7% of their attack attempts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hitting percentage total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Doherty came up short against Lutheran on Tuesday and fell 3-1. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Doherty was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Lutheran work for it, especially in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 13-25, 26-24, 25-20.
Doherty's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Discovery Canyon, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's game: Discovery Canyon hasn't let much over the net this season, having averaged 6.3 blocks per game. However, it's not like Doherty struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.1 blocks. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything went Discovery Canyon's way against Doherty when the teams last played back in March, as Discovery Canyon made off with a 3-0 win.
