The Ray Texans will head out to square off against the Miller Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Ray took a 48-point defeat the last time they faced off against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Texans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 66-63 win over the Eagles on Tuesday. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Texans were down 55-40 in the third quarter.

Huzefa Ullah had another great game (as he tends to do), going 8-for-13 on his way to 25 points. The game was his fifth in a row with at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Zaragoza, who posted 15 points and five boards.
Miller has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 91-82 hit to the loss column at the hands of Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Buccaneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 490th, while the Eagles are ranked 187th).
Ray will have to keep a close watch on Charles Perry Jr and Laythan Wilson, a pair of players who had a big impact on Miller's prior game. Perry Jr dropped a double-double with 29 points and 11 assists, while Wilson shot 57% from the field to rack up 21 points and five rebounds. Perry Jr has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times he's played. Brandon Smith was another key player, going 6-for-9 en route to 12 points and five boards.
Ray pushed their record up to 19-7 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.8 points over those games. As for Miller, their loss dropped their record down to 16-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Ray has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Miller struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Ray lost to Miller on the road by a decisive 74-57 margin in their previous meeting back in February of 2025. Can the Texans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
