The Azle Hornets lost against The Colony Cougars back in October of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Azle's rough 41-19 defeat to The Colony might stick with them for a while.
Azle's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Christian Mendoza, who picked up 85 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Derrek Vowell was another key contributor, throwing for 203 yards and two touchdowns.
The Colony found their leader in underclassman Kendrick Mcclodden, who rushed for 161 yards and three touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Cox, who rushed for 47 yards and two touchdowns.
Azle has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for The Colony, their win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 4-5.
Azle will challenge South Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Hills comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for The Colony, they will be playing at home against Saginaw at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Saginaw will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 690th, while The Colony is ranked 215th).
