Nolan Ashley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. He has become a key player for Falkner: the team is undefeated when he posts at least ten strikeouts, but 8-9 otherwise. Ashley was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anthony Morgan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Graydon Newby was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
Falkner was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Ingomar faced off against Tupelo Christian Prep on Thursday. The Falcons lost 17-3 to the Eagles. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Ingomar saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Ball, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Ingomar's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Falkner, their record is now 14-9.
Ingomar's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Falkner has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Ingomar, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Falkner keep running through batters, or will the Falcons buck the trend?
Falkner got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Ingomar by a conclusive 15-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
