A feisty cat fight will be fought as Windsor Jaguars take on Rancho Cotate Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Windsor is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Windsor proved they can win big on March 10th (they won by ten) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Cardinal Newman 6-5. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Kaihla Jarvinen made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up five earned runs off nine hits. Jarvinen was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Jarvinen wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Haley Homan, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Pearl McKay also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Rancho Cotate suffered their closest defeat since March 22, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Maria Carrillo by a score of 14-12.
Izabella Harumi made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Yahya Sadie was another key player, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Windsor is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. Rancho Cotate now has a losing record of 1-2.
Rancho Cotate's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Windsor has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Rancho Cotate, though, as they've been averaging 10.7 hits. Given Windsor's sizable advantage in that area, Rancho Cotate will need to find a way to close that gap.
Windsor took their win against Rancho Cotate in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-3. Does Windsor have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rancho Cotate turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
