Catalina Medina was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Sienna Wilson was incredible, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Haley Ocumen also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.
Willow Glen kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Ann Sobrato suffered their closest defeat since March 5, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Leland by a score of 6-4. The Bulldogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Amber Rodriguez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jordan Bouton was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Carlsen, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Willow Glen pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Ann Sobrato, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
Ann Sobrato's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Willow Glen has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Ann Sobrato, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 strikeouts. Will Willow Glen keep running through batters, or will Ann Sobrato buck the trend?
Everything went Willow Glen's way against Ann Sobrato when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Willow Glen made off with a 7-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Willow Glen since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
