The Gainesville Cardinals posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They took their match on the road with ease, bagging a 60-26 victory over Patriot. Given Gainesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Patriot is ranked 166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Madison McKenzie was her usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Grace Ellingson, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Gainesville pushed their record up to 14-3 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Patriot, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.
Gainesville will be playing in front of their home fans against Battlefield at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Battlefield is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Patriot, they will head out on the road to take on McLean at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
