After flying high against the Mayde Creek Rams last Thursday, The Morton Ranch Mavericks came back down to earth. Morton Ranch fell just short of Jordan by a score of 52-49. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Thursday (48), Morton Ranch still had to take the loss.
Morton Ranch's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Ryan Hall, who rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Hall was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Gerald, who rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Jordan got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Andrew Marsh out in front who picked up 240 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Colin Willetts was another key contributor, throwing for 370 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 14.8 yards per attempt.
Morton Ranch's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. As for Jordan, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.
Morton Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Jordan will square off against Fort Bend Hightower at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fort Bend Hightower knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully Jordan likes a good challenge.
