If the Mingus Marauders were feeling good off their 61-25 takedown of the Lee Williams Volunteers last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mingus took a serious blow against Flagstaff on Thursday, falling 69-40. While losing is never fun, Mingus can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while Flagstaff is ranked 11th).
Mingus' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alice Kinsey, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 21 rebounds. Kinsey hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 14 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Tobias, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Mingus' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 17-5. As for Flagstaff, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 21-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mingus will take on Mohave at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Mohave has now lost 11 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 20. As for Flagstaff, they will be playing at home against Bradshaw Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
