Caldwell hasn't had much luck against Skyview recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Cougars will welcome the Hawks at 5:00 p.m. Caldwell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Caldwell came up short against Nampa and fell 5-1. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Caldwell saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kloe Fogle, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Skyview had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Columbia a 13-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Hawks have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Makenna Shamy made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Grace Chambers and Makayla Lytle did most of the damage at the plate: Chambers went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one triple, while Lytle went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs Lytle has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kenna Bettencourt, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.
Skyview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They are 5-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Caldwell's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Skyview, their win bumped their record up to 7-13.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Caldwell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Skyview struggles in that department as they've averaged .361. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
