Williamsville East has gone a perfect 10-0 against Sweet Home recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Flames are taking a road trip to square off against the Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Williamsville East's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Sweet Home's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Williamsville East took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They skirted past Williamsville South 3-2.
Jaxson Lichner tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched.
At the plate, Williamsville East's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Noah Hoffman, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sweet Home). They blew past West Seneca East 10-1 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.
Eli Hansen was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Joe VanDusen and Aiden Mroz did most of the damage at the plate: VanDusen went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Mroz went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Mroz has posted since back in May of 2024. Jacob Brand was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Williamsville East's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.43 runs across that stretch. As for Sweet Home, the victory got them back to even at 2-2-1.
Williamsville East beat Sweet Home 5-2 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Flames since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
