Covington hasn't had much luck against Riverton Parke recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 10:00 a.m. Covington has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Covington came up short against Seeger on Tuesday, falling 18-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Trojans have suffered against the Patriots since May 20, 2022.
Covington saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Sutherlin, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Riverton Parke came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Falcons as they made off with a 16-1 victory. Considering the Panthers have won 12 contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jayleigh Inman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Madison Coonce was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynlee McGrannahan, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Riverton Parke kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Riverton Parke pushed their record up to 15-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Covington, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Covington hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Riverton Parke struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down. Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
