The Bennett Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Wellington Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Bennett has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Wellington will arrive with eight straight victories.
Bennett managed to keep up with Valley until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Bennett ended up on the wrong side of a tough 48-24 walloping at the hands of Valley. Bennett gained 72 more yards on the day, but it was Valley that made the best of use of them.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Aaron Driggs, who rushed for 111 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Another player making a difference was Austin Stiers, who gained 169 total yards.
Meanwhile, Wellington strolled past Platte Valley with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 26-7.
Wellington relied on the efforts of Cash Altschwager, who rushed for 138 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.6 yards per carry, and Tanner Gray, who rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns. Altschwager is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played.
Bennett's defeat was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. As for Wellington, their victory bumped their record up to 8-0.
Everything came up roses for Bennett against Wellington in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 58-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bennett since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
